The Cincinnati Police and Fire Departments have announced that they are now accepting applications for their Cadet programs. These programs are part of City Manager Sheryl Long's initiative to engage and employ young people in Cincinnati. The Cadet programs aim to provide essential training and mentorship to youth, serving as a stepping stone towards a career with the City.

City Manager Sheryl Long emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for young people to engage with the City. She stated, "When we talk about healthy neighborhoods, reducing gun violence, and building generational wealth, all of that starts with our young people. I want to create more opportunities for our youth to engage with the City, and offering them internships, summer jobs, and full-time employment is a win-win-win."

The Cincinnati Fire Department has introduced an innovative partnership with Cincinnati Public Schools, where trained cadets are present at high school sports games to provide first aid. These cadets have received training in CPR and First Aid through the American Heart Association and Stop the Bleed. This unique opportunity allows them to apply their skills in real-life situations during athletic events.

Fire Chief Frank McKinley expressed his enthusiasm for the Fire Cadet Program, stating, "While educating youth about the functions of the fire department, our Cincinnati Fire Cadet Program simultaneously guides participants through leadership development, service, and life-skills training, in addition to exposing local teens to a career where they can grow as young professionals. These are those foundational steps that we as a department, and as a city, must take to properly invest in our youth."

If you are interested in applying, applications for both the Cincinnati Fire Department and Cincinnati Police Department Cadet programs are now open. The application period will close on March 1, 2024, for the Fire Cadet program and on April 26, 2024, for the Summer Police Cadet program.

Fire Chief McKinley and Police Chief Teresa Theetge both encourage young individuals to take advantage of these opportunities. Police Chief Teresa Theetge stated, "The Cadet program provides our youth with an opportunity for hands-on career experience in law enforcement. This is one of several CPD programs that show investing in our youth works. I, as your police chief, have seen the results and I am dedicated to continuing these efforts in building up the next generation."

If you are between the ages of 14 and 18 and are interested in applying for the Cadet programs, you can visit the respective websites of the Cincinnati Fire Department and Cincinnati Police Department for more information and to submit your application.

This is an excellent opportunity for young individuals in Cincinnati to gain valuable experience and skills while exploring potential career paths in the police and fire departments. Don't miss out on this chance to be a part of these impactful programs. Apply now and take the first step towards a rewarding future.
