Congressman Greg Landsman, who represents Ohio’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, outlined concerns about affordability, public safety, government effectiveness, and threats to democracy in a series of posts on July 31, 2025. Landsman announced a new framework aimed at addressing these issues.

In his first post on July 31, Landsman stated: “America’s unaffordable, people don’t feel safe, the government doesn’t work for those who need it most, and our democracy is under attack. I put together a framework to fix it.”

He followed up with another post detailing the initial step of his plan: “Number 1: A new governing document: A Pledge to America  We need a new governing document that explains to the American people how we’re going to fix the economy, how we’re going to keep people safe, how we’re going to fix democracy, the government, everything. Here’s how…” (July 31).

Landsman also referenced historical precedent in his third post: “In 1994, Republicans introduced the Contract with America—10 bills they’d pass if they won the majority. They were very successful.” (July 31).

Greg Landsman has served as U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 1st District since defeating Steve Chabot in 2022 and assuming office in January 2023. He was born in Cincinnati in 1976 and continues to reside there. Landsman holds a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University.

The “Contract with America,” referenced by Landsman as an example of effective political communication and agenda-setting by House Republicans in the mid-1990s, helped shape congressional priorities after its introduction during the 1994 election cycle.
