Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, announced on May 11 two upcoming blood drives in May aimed at supporting patients in the Tristate area. The events include a drive at TQL Stadium in partnership with FC Cincinnati and another honoring cancer survivor John Mattingly.
The initiative is intended to maintain a strong supply of life-saving blood for local hospitals, which depend on community donations every day. Organizers say that these events offer meaningful ways for residents to give back and help those facing medical emergencies or ongoing treatments.
Soccer fans are invited to participate in the FC Cincinnati Blood Drive at TQL Stadium’s Tunnel Club. Kate Solomon, FC Cincinnati chief youth and community officer, said, “At FC Cincinnati, serving our community goes far beyond match day, and this blood drive is a meaningful way for us to support our neighbors when they need it most. Our fans consistently show up with incredible passion and generosity, and this is another opportunity to channel that spirit into something truly impactful for our region.”
Another featured event honors John Mattingly, who required multiple transfusions during a medical emergency. His experience highlights the importance of donated blood for patients facing unexpected health crises or surgeries. Inspired by his recovery and gratitude toward donors he may never meet, Mattingly is now hosting his own community blood drive.
According to Hoxworth Blood Center, the organization was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals across Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Each year it collects over 100,000 units of blood from local donors.
Community members interested in donating can schedule appointments through Hoxworth.org or by calling (513) 451-0910.
