Councilmember Reggie Harris Announces Seth Walsh as the Appointee to the Vacated Council Seat

Councilmember Reggie Harris, who is the sole successor designee for Congressman-elect Greg Landsman’s vacated council seat, has selected Seth Walsh, current Executive Director of the College Hill Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (CHCURC), to fill the seat.

“Cincinnati, as well as the nation, is facing an unprecedented housing crisis. We are fortunate to have someone like Seth to step into this seat whose work in College Hill has become the model for community-driven affordable housing creation and neighborhood revitalization without displacement,” said Harris.

In his time at CHCURC, Seth has led the production and preservation of hundreds of new units of housing in College Hill, including 100+ units of much-needed affordable housing. The nearly $85 million in investment in College Hill he has helped bring to date has been transformational, but also responsive to and widely supported by the diverse community that exists in the neighborhood.

“Community Development Corporations (CDCs) are one of the most important tools we have to grow the city equitably. Seth has walked the walk, leading one of the most successful CDCs in the city. He will be an asset to the work this council is prioritizing,” said Harris.

“I am incredibly honored that I was selected to serve our great city and I can’t wait to get to work. There is so much talent on the current council and I look forward to collaborating with them to help shape the future of Cincinnati.

I want to thank Councilmember Harris for his leadership and commitment to the appointment process, and to congratulate Congressman-elect Greg Landsman on his historic election result. Greg’s leadership is a blueprint to creating a more equitable Cincinnati that thrives together. I couldn’t be more excited to serve and look forward to getting to work!” said Walsh.

Congressman-elect Landsman, who will continue to serve on Council until his official resignation said “We set out to establish a new, public, and open process, and I couldn’t be more grateful to my colleagues who engaged in this new way of filling a council vacancy. My hope is that this becomes a norm moving forward: public, transparent, and based on our shared values and the qualities of a successful lawmaker.”

A press conference will be held Tuesday, December 13th at 10:30am (details below). Congressman-elect Landsman will resign, and Walsh will be sworn in on Monday, December 19th following Budget and Finance Committee.
