The group Catholics for Catholics will hold a “Rosary Rally” on Sunday, August 6 in support of a ballot initiative that would make it harder to change the Ohio Constitution.

The event, which takes place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., will be held at Dorl Field in Norwood, Ohio.

Scheduled speakers include actor Jim Caviezel, former U.S. National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, and Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood clinic director who now advocates for an end to abortion.

“The event is strategically taking place two days before the crucial election beginning on August 8th,” says the Catholics for Catholics website. “Voting YES will protect Ohio’s Constitution and save children from abortion up to birth and genital mutilation without parental consent.”

Ohio voters on August 8 will consider Issue 1, which would raise the threshold necessary to pass an amendment to Ohio's State Constitution from 50%+1 to 60%.

It would also require signatures gathered to support amendments to include voters from all 88 of Ohio's counties and restrict "do-overs" on signature submissions, which would give signature-gatherers one chance to properly obtain signatures for a proposed amendment.

If Issue 1 passes, it will have a direct impact on a proposed abortion-expansion amendment that recently qualified to appear on the Ohio ballot in the November election.

A recent USA Today/Suffolk University poll of likely Ohio voters showed that 58% of voters support the proposed abortion amendment.

If Issue 1 is passed on August 8, the abortion amendment would have to reach 60% to pass in November.

Naomi del Guidice, the state Catholic outreach director for Vote Catholic Ohio, told Buckeye Reporter that passing Issue 1 is “our best strategy to protect the reborn and prevent abortion from being added to the Ohio Constitution.”

Additional partners for the August 6 rally include Cincinnati Right to Life, Cleveland Right to Life, Dayton Right to Life, Greater Columbus Right to Life, Do No Harm Ohio, and the Ohio Christian Alliance.
