The Chateau at Mountain Crest leads Hamilton County nursing homes in Q1 with 167 beds

The Chateau at Mountain Crest Nursing & Rehab Center emerged as the largest nursing home in Hamilton County during the first quarter of 2026, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data shows.

The facility offered 167 beds, which is 70 above the county average for that period, and reported an average daily census of 136.1 residents in the quarter.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services gave The Chateau at Mountain Crest Nursing & Rehab Center an overall rating of 2 out of 5—a figure lower than the Ohio nursing home average of 3.2.

Chamberlin Healthcare Center was the next largest nursing home in Hamilton County for the period, providing 162 beds, followed by Meadowbrook Care Center in third, which offered 146 beds.

As of the first quarter of 2026, The Chateau at Mountain Crest Nursing & Rehab Center had paid $174,018 in three fines and had six penalties imposed.

Hamilton County, Ohio had 59 for-profit nursing homes in total during this time.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the share of older adults across the country continues to climb, while younger populations are shrinking. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and up grew by 13%, as the number of children under 18 dropped 1.7%. The nation’s older population has expanded sharply in the past century, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 analysis projects that roughly half of adults in this age bracket—about 28 million people—could need long-term services and support, with more than a third expected to need care in a nursing home over time.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
