The University of Cincinnati announced on May 18 that more than 425 staff and faculty members participated in UC Serves, an annual day dedicated to giving back to the Greater Cincinnati community.
Organized by the Division of Student Affairs’ Center for Community Engagement, the event offered over 60 volunteer opportunities supporting local nonprofits. The projects focused on beautification, food access, environmental efforts, education, and other areas.
Volunteers took part in activities across the region. Gardening teams worked at locations such as Spencer Center for Gifted and Exceptional Students and tended gardens at UC Clermont Community Garden as well as a garden for the Bearcats Pantry and Resource Center at UC Fishwick. Other groups painted water tables for summer camp at Stepping Stones Inc., refreshed a property line fence at Cincinnati Toolbank, and improved a shed at Mattie’s House. Animal lovers walked dogs at the League for Animal Welfare. Additional volunteers stocked items at Meals on Wheels or read to children during Reading Day at Cincinnati Public Schools.
According to the university, this event demonstrates its ongoing commitment to community engagement and civic partnership. By collaborating with local nonprofits, participants contributed to meeting important needs throughout Greater Cincinnati. UC Serves has drawn participation from across the University of Cincinnati since it began in 2014.
The university said that service projects were designed to appeal to a wide range of interests within its campus community.
