Two students have been recognized with the University of Findlay’s Founders’ Son and Daughter Award for their involvement on campus and academic accomplishments.
Founders’ Son and Daughter Awards are annually awarded to two students who exemplify the ideals of the University of Findlay’s founders. Brandi Laurita, vice president of student affairs and director of athletics, explained the ideals include achievement in the following areas: scholarship; extracurricular involvement; service to the University and local community; leadership; and moral, personal, and spiritual integrity.
Octavian Dungee
Dungee, from Grayslake, IL, is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice White-Collar Crime and Fraud Investigation with plans to further his education after graduation by pursuing a master’s in business management administration with an emphasis in accounting.
On campus, Dungee is active in a number of student organizations including the President Student Council on Belonging and Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Board. He has also served as the inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Chair for SGA, Treasurer for UF’s Black Student Union, President of the Criminal Justice and Forensic Science Club, New Student Orientation Leader, a Resident Assistant, and will be a Resident Director next year. Along with his club and other involvements, Dungee has shown great initiative on campus through peer mentorship with the Buford Center for Diversity and Service, leading discussions about Blue Lives Matter with UF Security and Police, and helping to establish a Food Pantry for students in need.
Outside of the University, Dungee continues to gain experience for his future career and gives back to his community through an internship with Hancock County Adult Probation and AmeriCorp Vista.
Ashlyn Coleman
Coleman, from Dayton, Ohio, is majoring in Findlay’s Exercise Science Program and plans to continue her education by earning a Doctorate of Physical Therapy with minors in psychology and theatre performance.
Her on-campus involvement includes multiple years of SGA leadership, including Vice-President and upcoming President-elect; Philanthropy Chair; Vice President-elect of Mortar Board National Honor Society; and has been actively involved in Greek Life, served as a Resident Assistant, and will complete her second year as a Resident Director next year. Coleman has also worked for multiple offices on campus including the Office of Student Affairs, Office of Admissions, and the Office of Marketing and Communication.
Coleman takes initiative in the community as well by working as a Fitness Assistant at 50 North and a Competitive Cheer Coat at Capitol City Athletics.
