The University of Cincinnati volleyball team was swept by UCF on Friday night inside Fifth Third Arena.
The Knights, who are receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll, defeated the Bearcats in three sets to improve to 17-1 overall and 9-1 in the American Athletic Conference.
With the loss, the Bearcats move to 5-14 overall and 3-6 in the AAC.
Junior outside hitter Elissa Alcantara recorded a team-high eight kills while senior libero Payton Frederick registered a match-high 13 digs on defense.
// HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The two teams traded points in the early going before UCF pieced together a 4-1 spurt to force a UC timeout at 14-10. UCF continued its strong attack out of the break, taking the first set, 25-14. The Knights hit .600 with 17 kills and only two attacking errors on 25 attempts in the opening stanza. UC's offense was held to a -.037 hitting percentage.
SET 2 | The Knights used a 7-0 scoring run to open a 13-7 lead in the second set. The deficit proved too large to overcome as UCF won the frame, 25-18. Alcantara put down four kills at a .286 hitting percentage in the stanza.
SET 3 | UCF jumped out to a 13-4 advantage in the third and final set. The Bearcats put together a 4-1 run to cut their deficit to seven (16-9). The run was highlighted by kills from Alcantara, Avry Tatum, Abby Walker and Sarah Norcom. UC used another 4-1 spurt to pull within six (21-15) but would not get any closer for the remainder of the set (25-16). Norcom came off the bench for four kills on four attempts in the frame.
