U.S. Congressman Greg Landsman, who represents Ohio’s 1st district, addressed the impact of social media and gun violence in a series of posts on September 11, 2025.

In one post, Landsman wrote, "And then there's social media. It is an accelerant for this violent rhetoric. The fact that the video of someone being murdered was forced by the algorithm into all of our phones is a problem." (September 11, 2025).

He also commented on responses to acts of violence: "When somebody offers thoughts and prayers that's okay. That's fine. When folks say we've got to tackle mental health, yes, we do. When people say we can protect the rights of gun owners while getting weapons out of the hands of dangerous people, that’s absolutely true." (September 11, 2025).

Landsman concluded his remarks with advice for individuals: "We also have to tackle this as individuals. So my advice is after this post, get off social media just for a little bit. Give yourself a break." (September 11, 2025).

Landsman has served in Congress since replacing Steve Chabot in 2023 and currently resides in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born in Cincinnati in 1976 and graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1999.
