On Wednesday, July 19th, the City of Cincinnati, in partnership with the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, convened grantees through the Human Services Fund focused on youth violence reduction. The convening, led by the City's Director of Human Services and Director of the Collaborative Policing Division, is the first-ever meeting of its kind in Cincinnati. This effort is designed to:

  1. Build a community of practice amongst violence prevention practitioners and decision-makers
  2. Level set Human Services Funding Violence Prevention Grantees on the current state of gun violence within the City
  3. Develop reasonable and realistic expectations for collecting performance measurement data
The City was honored to be joined by Assistant Police Chief Mike John, CPD Senior Crime Analyst Jillian Desmond, Juvenile Court Judge Kari Bloom, United Way of Greater Cincinnati, and our Human Services grantee organizations for this important conversation. More than 20 organizations with programs focused on youth violence reduction were represented at the convening. The programs offered by our partners in this cohort range from entrepreneurship and skill-building to counseling and family services. This dynamic group discussed a wide range of topics, including:

  • Introduction to the Reimagining of Cincinnati Initiative to Reduce Violence
  • Discussion of challenges and trends related to violence in our community
  • Data sharing from the Cincinnati Police Department and Hamilton County Juvenile Court
  • Co-creation of performance metrics to measure the impact of partner organizations
