Congressman Greg Landsman, representing Ohio's 1st district since 2023, has expressed concerns regarding proposed budget cuts and their implications on public welfare. In a series of tweets dated May 23, 2025, he outlines the potential impact of these financial decisions.
In his first tweet, Landsman states, "To pay for it, they’re proposing: ~$900B cut to Medicaid – kicking 8 million people off their health care $360B cut to the ACA – 5 million more lose coverage $230B cut to food assistance – millions, mostly children, go without + $2T added to the national debt." This tweet highlights significant reductions in healthcare and food assistance programs alongside an increase in national debt.
In a subsequent post, Landsman suggests an alternative approach: "There is an alternative and the math is simple. We can offer tax relief to those who need it without: Cutting health care Slashing food assistance Adding to the deficit." He advocates for maintaining essential services while providing tax relief.
Finally, he proposes changes to the tax code as a solution: "If you make a few changes to the tax code at the top for the super wealthy and big corporations, no one loses their health insurance, no one loses food, and you don't add anything to the deficit." Landsman's stance emphasizes fiscal responsibility without compromising public welfare.
Greg Landsman was born in Cincinnati in 1976 and graduated from Ohio University with a BA in 1999. He currently resides in Cincinnati.
