Congressman Greg Landsman, who represents Ohio’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, addressed the possibility of a government shutdown in a series of posts on September 26, 2025. Landsman commented on responsibility for a potential shutdown and urged action from both former President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans.

In his first post, Landsman wrote, "You would think they’d want to avoid a shutdown because they're going to get blamed for this. You would think the’d want to avoid a shutdown because they're going to get blamed for this." (September 26, 2025).

He followed up by sharing his immediate plans and emphasizing the urgency of negotiations: "I'm heading back to DC on Monday. That gives us a couple days to get this done, but it does require Trump and congressional Republicans to want to get this done and want to avoid a shutdown." (September 26, 2025).

Landsman also suggested that former President Trump could play a decisive role in averting a shutdown: "Trump could put people in a room and within an hour or two and there would be a deal. There would be no government shutdown, and everyone's health care would stay the same." (September 26, 2025).

Greg Landsman has represented Ohio’s 1st District since replacing Steve Chabot in 2023. Born in Cincinnati in 1976, he continues to reside there and graduated from Ohio University with a BA in 1999.
