Congressman Greg Landsman, who represents Ohio’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, addressed concerns about a potential government shutdown and healthcare funding in a series of posts on September 26, 2025.
In his first post, Landsman stated, "It's going to be Trump’s shutdown, and it's going to be Trump's cut to health care. That’s how people will see it, because that's what it is." (September 26, 2025). He attributed responsibility for both a possible government shutdown and proposed healthcare cuts to former President Donald Trump.
Continuing his remarks shortly after, Landsman emphasized bipartisan cooperation: "The bottom line is that everyone should be working together to keep the government open, avoid a shutdown, and protect healthcare." (September 26, 2025).
Later that day, he referenced an administrative decision regarding Medicaid expansion: “In July, the Trump administration informed states that it wouldn't be granting requests to expand Medicaid to more people, including children.” This is why we have to win this healthcare fight. (September 26, 2025).
Landsman's comments come as Congress faces ongoing negotiations over federal funding and health policy. The issue of Medicaid expansion has been a recurring topic in national debates; according to his statement, the Trump administration declined state requests for broader Medicaid coverage earlier in July.
Landsman has served as the representative for Ohio's 1st District since replacing Steve Chabot in 2023. Born in Cincinnati in 1976 and an alumnus of Ohio University with a BA earned in 1999, he continues to reside in Cincinnati while serving his constituents.
