Mayor's Community Fund Prepares for Holiday Giving

The Harrison Mayor's Community Fund (HMCF) will have a "dine and donate" fundraiser Oct. 25, 2022 at Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, 10927 New Haven Road. Between 5 and 9 p.m., HMCF will receive 15 percent of all purchases at the restaurant.

HMCF will also kick-off its annual toy drive during the first week of November. Collection boxes will placed at businesses throughout the City. To request a box, email Mayor Bill Neyer.

All donations to HMCF are used to help local people with grocery vouchers, food pantry items, Duke energy bill assistance, and occasionally rent payments. During the holiday season, HMCF, together with the various local churches and schools, provides assistance in the form of food, clothing, winter coats, and toys to hundreds of families.

People seeking assistance for the holidays can apply at the Harrison Community Center during set times, which are posted on the City Calendar.

HMCF carries out a tradition of giving that began in 1958 with Harrison Mayor Clyde Small. Mayor Small received a turkey that he didn't need, so he gave it to Fred Dole, co-owner of the Whitewater Market on the corner at 102 Harrison Avenue. Dole cut the turkey in half to feed two families in need.

In addition to the toy drive and Freddy's fundraiser, contributions can also be made by check and sent to: Harrison Mayor's Community Fund, PO Box 471, Harrison, OH 45030.
