Cincinnati, OH – On July 11, Congressman Greg Landsman (OH-01) announced six national and state law enforcement organizations have endorsed his bipartisan legislation to enhance a federal grant program utilized by local law enforcement.

Congressman Landsman’s bipartisan legislation – the Enhancing COPS Hiring Program Grants for Local Law Enforcement Act – has been endorsed by six national and state law enforcement organizations:

  • National Fraternal Order of Police
  • National Association of Police Organizations
  • International Union of Police Associations
  • Small and Rural Law Enforcement Executives Association
  • Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association
  • Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association
In May, Congressman Landsman partnered with Ohio Republican and Democratic members Mike Carey (R-OH-15), Max Miller (R-OH-07), and Emilia Strong Sykes (D-OH-13) to introduce the legislation aimed at enhancing the U.S. Department of Justice’s COPS Hiring Program to allow local law enforcement agencies to utilize federal grant funding to provide recruitment and retention bonuses, and to reduce costs and administrative burdens faced by law enforcement agencies in applying for the federal grant funding.

Congressman Landsman’s legislation has been cosponsored by more than 30 Republican and Democratic members in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Our bipartisan bill to help local law enforcement recruit and retain officers has been endorsed by the National FOP and five other national and state law enforcement organizations,” said Congressman Landsman. “With dozens of Republicans and Democrats on our bill, we’re working to bring it to the House floor for a vote. And we’ll be doing the same for our firefighters.”
