Congressman Greg Landsman, representing Ohio's 1st district since 2023, shared his views on Middle East peace and security through a series of tweets. The congressman, who replaced Steve Chabot in the U.S. Congress, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1976 and graduated from Ohio University in 1999.
On November 26, 2024, Congressman Landsman expressed his perspective on Iran's influence in the region. He stated: "5. It should be clear to all that but for Iran, there would be peace. Iran has funded Hezbollah and Hamas. Without either, Lebanon would be free from terror and likely interested in normalizing relations with Israel — as neighboring Jordan and Egypt have done."
In another tweet posted on the same day, he emphasized the importance of reaching a ceasefire agreement involving Hamas. Landsman wrote: "4. The agreement should also be motivation for all who want peace to pressure Hamas to agree to a ceasefire, with the return of hostages. This war must end, too."
Further elaborating on his vision for regional stability, Congressman Landsman advocated for significant changes in governance within Gaza and Lebanon while reducing Iranian influence. He tweeted: "8. ….supporting a new governing authority in Gaza, empowering the Lebanese Army and people, and removing Iran’s terror groups from the region will put the Middle East on a new pathway to peace, security and shared prosperity. This must be our collective vision."
