Congressman Greg Landsman, who represents Ohio’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on August 9, 2025, to challenge recent communications from the Social Security Administration (SSA) regarding taxes on Social Security benefits.

In a post dated August 9, Landsman stated: "The Social Security Administration sent this email out to 90 million seniors. It claimed their big bill had eliminated the taxes on Social Security benefits. That’s not true." He continued in a subsequent tweet: "The vast majority of seniors get little to nothing. And ALL seniors are still paying taxes on their Social Security benefits."

Landsman further argued that these developments were part of a broader trend affecting the SSA. In another message posted on the same day, he wrote: "This is just the latest attempt to undermine Social Security. They’ve tried to close SSA offices across the country and they’ve fired staff, making it harder to get help through on the phone. Why? They’re hoping that frustration leads to privatization."

Greg Landsman has served as a U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 1st District since 2023, succeeding Steve Chabot after the previous election cycle. Born in Cincinnati in 1976 and an alumnus of Ohio University, Landsman has maintained his residence in Cincinnati throughout his tenure.

Social Security remains a significant topic among American lawmakers and citizens alike due to its role as a primary source of income for many retirees and ongoing debates about its funding and management.
