Keep Warm During Extreme Cold | County of Hamilton

Extreme cold and dangerous wind chills are expected to impact the region beginning Thursday night (December 22nd) and through the holiday weekend. The National Weather Service in Wilmington is currently predicting highs in the single digits, lows near zero, and wind chills below -10℉.

The expected cold weather will make cold related illnesses a very real and dangerous threat. Hamilton County residents are advised to stay inside and avoid prolonged exposure to the freezing temperatures and wind chill outside. If you are going outside be sure to have multiple layers of warm clothing. Check frequently on relatives and neighbors that are elderly or chronically ill, and don't forget to bring all pets inside.

If you do not have heat or lose power, find a warm environment to give your body a break from the cold. Consider visiting a restaurant, shopping mall, community center, local library, or recreation center. Be sure to call locations ahead of time for business hours.

We also encourage residents to sign up for Alert Hamilton County to receive important alerts and to stay weather aware. Sign up at www.alerthc.org.
