Congressman Greg Landsman, who represents Ohio’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, addressed claims regarding recent legislation affecting Social Security benefits in a series of posts on August 14, 2025.

In one post, Landsman stated: "Here’s the truth:

It’s not permanent.

It’s only for some working seniors.

Most seniors get little or nothing.

AND everyone is still paying taxes on their benefits." (August 14, 2025)

He further commented on communication sent to seniors: "They even sent an email to 90+ million seniors claiming their big bill “eliminated taxes on Social Security benefits.”

That’s false." (August 14, 2025)

Landsman also outlined his legislative priorities: "We need to:

Protect benefits

Improve service

Cut taxes for seniors

And we can do it by making the wealthiest Americans pay what they owe." (August 14, 2025)

Landsman's comments follow public debate over proposed changes to Social Security taxation and benefit structures. As a member of Congress since replacing Steve Chabot in 2023, Landsman has focused part of his platform on senior issues and tax policy. Born in Cincinnati in 1976 and a graduate of Ohio University with a BA earned in 1999, he continues to reside in Cincinnati.
